An unconfirmed COD order is a loan you made to a stranger
Cash on delivery moves the risk onto the merchant. You pack, you pay freight, and you find out at the doorstep whether there was ever an intention to buy. A confirmation message before dispatch turns that guess into a known answer.
Ask in the channel that gets answered
A confirmation call goes unanswered and an email goes unread. A WhatsApp message with two obvious replies gets a response, because answering it costs the customer one tap.
Record the answer against the order
The message only helps if the reply is attached to the order your team is packing. A confirmation sitting in an inbox nobody reconciles is a message you paid for and did not use.
Wrong addresses are the second tax
A missing landmark or a mistyped postcode becomes a failed delivery and a return to origin, with freight charged both ways. The customer is the only person who can fix it, and they can only fix it if you ask before dispatch rather than after the parcel comes back.
Let the customer correct it themselves
Send a private link to the address on the order and let them edit it. It is faster than your team guessing, more accurate than a phone call transcribed by hand, and it happens while the parcel is still in your building.
Measure the two numbers that matter
Track confirmed-before-dispatch rate and return-to-origin rate. If the first goes up and the second goes down, the messages are paying for themselves. If neither moves, the timing or the wording is wrong — not the channel.
